Nyasa Big Bullets players on Friday were heavily beaten by Malawi Armed Forces College (MAFCO) Football team ahead of their Carlsberg Cup quarterfinal scheduled to be played on Saturday, Nyika Daily News has learnt.
According to local media reports, Nyasa Bullets FC Players were seen training at MAFCO’s home ground Chitowe Stadium ahead of the encounter a development which angered MAFCO team Manager David Gulaimfa who ordered his boys to invade the pitch and attack the players.
Bullets veteran player Fisher Kondowe, Niyikiza Aimado and goal minder Chimwemwe Kumnkwawa were heavily injured by the armed men and they were rushed to hospital for medical attention.
Meanwhile, Football Association Of Malawi (FAM) through its Competitions Sub Committee has condemned the violence act and has since postpone the match to next week over security concerns.
“Be reminded that FAM does not condone any act of violence which erodes the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play and shakes the very foundations the game is built on,’’
said FAM in a statement signed by Jabar Alide.
The statement further said the football mother body was extremely disappointed that the match will not be played as scheduled.
In the year 2013, a game between MAFCO fc and Mighty Be Forward Wanderers was also engulfed with fracas and at the same Chitowe Stadium.
