Malawi’s controversial Lawmaker for Rumphi East constituency, Kamlepo Kalua has given President Peter Mutharika 24-hours to resign for failing to name and fire seven cabinet Ministers implicated in the MK577
billion audit report.
Kamlepo, who is also Vice Chairperson of Public Accounts Committee of Parliament (PAC), said this after president Mutharika
gave him 24-hours to submit the names at Kamuzu Palace or he should shut up forever and ever.
“This MP from the north should bring the names at Kamuzu Palace or he should shut up. I sent the Chief Secretary to the Auditor
General and he came back saying there are no such names,” said Mutharika on Monday during the official opening of Sugar factory
in Salima district.
Responding to this, the outspoken
Lawmaker Kalua said that he will only give the names of the seven Ministers when president appoints him as Attorney General and Head of Anti-Corruption Bureau. He also
said that he will take orders from the people from his constituency
“Fact remains that Billions were stolen by people some of whom are ministers today! Therefore I also give u 24 hours, make me
Attorney General, make me head of ACB and I will name with the immunity that comes with these positions, if you don’t, you should resign Sir!’’ said Kalua.
MK577 billion was suspected to have been siphoned from public coffers according to a data analysis by Price Water house Coopers (PwC) of May 2015 but the unreconciled funds have been revised downwards to about K236.
