Malawi Police Arrest MDF Soldier, Others For Armed Robbery

Malawi security gone to the dogs, Police are holding a Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldier on allegations of leading a gang of
heavily armed robbers who robbed Nkhoma Chipiku store in the central region, Nyika Daily News has learnt.

According to Police information, the suspects Noel Kabango a soldier from the Support Battalion, Lyton Magombo, Mixon Banda and Jafali Bashili were found with SMG Rifle with 19 rounds and 2 bionets .

The Four criminals were using a Toyota Ipsum registration number BS 1218, which belongs to the
soldier.

It is suspected that the criminals attacked Nkhoma Chipiku stores during the week where they shot and wounded on both thighs the Branch Manager Anania Kaonga
Nkhoma before they went with Millions of Kwachas.

Meanwhile, the Branch Manager Anania Kaonga is battling for her life at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe.

The Suspects Noel Kabango,35, hails from Traditional Authority(TA) Njombwa in
Kasungu ,Jafali Bashili, 20, hails from Njuni Village in the area of T.A Tambar in Dedza, Lyton Magombo,25 , from Jailosi village TA Chikowi in Zomba and Mixon Banda, 36, of Mtupanyama Villange in TA Likoswe at Chiradzulu district.

In a separate development, the Police at Chinsapo Township in Lilongwe on Friday rescued a 20-year-old man from angry mob
that nearly set him alight.

The man, identified as Chimwemwe Steven, was accused of stealing four shovels from some residents who were mining sand at Lilongwe river.

According to Detective Sub Inspector Charles Mwandira, the suspect sneaked to the river and stole the materials after the miners were relaxing elsewhere.

He, however, was apprehended shortly after making off, inciting the irate mob into justice.

They dragged him up to the Chinsapo 1 bus stage and heaped some dry grass and plastic bags on him.

Police, however, rushed to the scene after being tipped by well-wishers.

A single shot into the air scared and dispersed the mob that also expressed anger at the police action.

The suspect Chimwemwe Steven hails Mkhwayi village in the area of Traditional Authority Kadewere in Chiradzulu District.
