Blantyre Newspapers Limited (BNL) photo-journalist Bonnex Julius Binali has put Malawi on the world Map after winning one of the 2016 Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Media Awards.
Julius Binali won in the water Photography Category with an entry depicting children paddling a canoe on Lake Malawi.
SADC Chairperson, the President of the Republic of Botswana Dr. Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama presented the award to Binali on Tuesday during the
opening of the Heads of State and
Government SADC summit in the Swaziland Capital, Mbabane.
In his congratulatory statement, Minister responsible for Information Patricia Kaliati said that the award will help Mr Binali and the media industry to achieve more success in the future.
“It is the expectation of the State President that these awards will encourage Mr. Binali and the media in general to achieve more
success in future endearvours and will also inspire all of us to work harder in all our efforts to put Malawi on the international
map for good reasons as Mr. Binali has done,” said Kaliati.
Out of the 15 Countries in the SADC Region Malawi was among four countries that managed to get an award showcasing
excellence in journalism in the SADC Region.
