Member of Parliament for Lilongwe, City Centre David Bisnowaty has donated an airticket to the United States for Malawi filmmaker Flora Suya worthy K1.6 million.
Suya will attend the Silicon Valley Film Festival in California and Bisnowaty said the idea of supporting her will help Malawi get international recognition.
He added that it is high time that the world know about Malawi that we have talent here and we also make good movies.

“The idea is to get exposed to international media and also international film festivals. It is great that a Malawian movie star has been invited to a United States festival and that shows they are also inspired like i was.

“To make movies is not cheap, you need also of funding and she will meet a lot of people there that can help her get funding for next projects,” he said.

Bisnorwarty said having attended Suya’s movie premiere last year, he was fascinated to see how true the movie (My Mother’s story) tells the reality in Malawi and promised to continue supporting her because she has a bright future.

In her remarks, Suya said the donation means a lot to her career as an actress and filmmaker as it gives her more belief that she can do it.

“This is an encouragement that i can do more than i did in my mother’s story. To have people attached to it & invite me for a festival is encouraging for me as it is my first movie,” Suya said.

My Mother’s story is a movie that tells a story about a young lady who gets pregnant by a gardener and later he abandons her.

She then falls in love with a rich man who takes care of her till child birth and dies when the child is aged 7 and she then struggles to raise the kid on her own.-MANA
