As Muslims across the world were celebrating the birth of Prophet Muhammad, President Professor Peter Mutharika hosted a luncheon in honour of the country Netball Team, the Queens at Sanjika Palace in the commercial city of Blantyre.
Speaking at the luncheon, President Mutharika congratulated the queens for crushing big teams in the just ended Fast 5 World Network Series. He said that the competition was highly competitive.
“You have beaten countries such as South Africa, Jamaica and England. And you took our country to Number Three in the whole world. This is an extraordinary achievement. Congratulations,” said President Mutharika.
President Mutharika also called upon Malawians to keep on supporting various sports disciplines. He added that sports unites people and creates spirit of patriotism and heroism.
“I would like to urge every patriotic Malawian to support the various sports that we have in this country. National sport unites us. Sport instills confidence in us.
“It creates the spirit of patriotism and heroism in us. Sport is also good for our health. Sport is therefore important in national development,” urged President Peter Mutharika.
