The Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor Charles Chuka on Friday said that Malawians should expect new bank note soon.
Governor Chuka made the shocking remarks at Kamuzu Palace in the Capital Lilongwe when he was presenting new Mk2000 Bank note to Malawi president Professor Peter Mutharika.
He said that the introduction of new note, k2000 which is to roll on December 19, is not automatic that things will go better if depreciation of kwacha continues.
“It is very sad that our currency is not doing well and if this continues expect another note” said Charles Chuka.
In his remarks Mutharika said, “May I appeal to you my friends to please take care of these notes by not folding them anyhow, tearing, throwing down and stepping on them during festivities and ceremonies as it is very expensive to print new currencies,”
The front of the new MK2000 bank note bears the portrait of Reverend John Chilembwe while the back have a motif of the Malawi University of Science and Technology located in Thyolo district depicting the theme of social development.
