Malawi President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on Saturday officially opened the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
Speaking during the opening of the ultra modern 40,000 seater stadium, Mutharika thanked the Chinese Government for financing construction of the stadium and pledged continued development programmes to benefit all Malawians.
The gates of the stadium were opened at 6:00am and by the time activities started, it was fully packed leading to closure of the gates.
Activities during the opening of ceremony included military displays, Kung fu displays by Amitofo children, music and other dances.
Among the dignitaries present were Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima, Minister responsible for Sports Henry Mussa among others.
The final activity was a football game between Malawi Under 23 and a team from China.
