Government Has Said It Has Lined Up A Number Of Development Programmes For The Eastern Region In Order To Uplift People’s Living Standards.

He Said Such Development Initiatives Include Community Technical Colleges, Rehabilitation Of The Liwonde – Mangochi Road, Mangochi – Makanjira Road And The Construction Of Monkey Bay Rural Growth Centre Among Others.

“I Am Determined To Develop This Nation. Those Critics Who Are Saying We Are Doing Nothing Might Be Living In Another Planet – In Jupiter Perhaps Where It Would Take 10 To 15 Years To Reach,” Mutharika Challenged.

“Slowly And Slowly We Are Developing This Country. The Chinese Government Which Supported Such Big Investments Like The Parliament Building And The Bingu National Stadium Have Also Committed To Assist With Seven Other Huge Projects To Be Undertaken Soon,” He Added.

The Malawian Leader Said Skilled Labour Force Was Crucial To The Country’s Industrialization Process Which In The End Would Facilitate Manufacturing And Exportation Of Different Products Thereby Earning The Much Needed Foreign Exchange.

He Said Government Is Determined To Develop Skills Among The Youth For Gainful Employment Upon Realizing That Community Technical Colleges Have The Potential To Improve The Country’s Economy.

“The Vision We Have Is That Equipping The Youths To Work For Themselves And In The End Become Self – Reliant. No Country In The World Can Employ All Its Citizens, That Is Why We Have An Element Of Entrepreneurship In The Community Technical Colleges,” Mutharika Emphasized.

He Disclosed That Government Would Construct An International Airport In Mangochi To Suit Its Standards Of Tourist Destination.

“We Would Like To Have At Least One International Airport In Each Of The Four Regions Of The Country As A Fulfillment Of What We Set Out In Our Campaign Manifesto,” He Said.

Mutharika Hailed Bonongwe Building Contractors For Doing An Excellent Work And With Dedication, Saying It A Manifestation Of Patriotism And Hard Work As Espoused By The President Himself.

Minister Of Labour, Sports, Youth And Manpower Development, Henry Mussa Said Mangochi Community Technical College Was Number 12 On The List Of The Facilities To Be Established Before 2018 And That 16 More Would Be Constructed By Next Year To Take The Figure To 28.17504542_693449574174873_7102876763281090288_o

“Following The Success Of The Initiative, The European Union Have Committed To Support The Construction Of Community Technical Colleges In 10 Districts While The African Development Bank Has Committed To Support The Component Of Entrepreneurship In All The Community Technical Colleges,” He Pointed Out.

Mussa Disclosed That Upon Completion Of The 28 Community Technical Colleges, Government Would Take The Initiative Of Skills Development Centres To All The 193 Constituencies Of The Country.

On Sports, The Minister Said Government Would Reintroduce Such Initiatives Like Physical Education And Hand Work To Develop And Explore Talents, Skills At The Grass Root Level.

Technical, Educational, Vocational And Training Authority (TEVETA) Board Chairperson, Gilbert Chilinde Said TEVETA Would Be Continue To Be In The Forefront To Make The Establishment Of Community Technical Colleges A Reality.

“We Will Remain Committed To Provision Of Sustainable Technical And Vocational Skills To The Youth In The Country,” He Assured, Adding That, “Establishment Of Community Technical Colleges Is In Tandem With TEVETA’s Strategic Plan Of Increasing Technical And Vocational Skills Training.”

“WE Are Sure That Community Technical Colleges Will Break The Vicious Cycle Of Poverty Through Empowerment Of Malawian Youths Who Are Also A Very Productive Age Group,” Chilinde Noted.

Some Of The Trades Being Offered At The College Include Information And Communication Technology, Electrical Installation And Electronics, Tailoring And Fashion Design, Plumbing And Automobile Mechanics Among Others.-Mana
