The First Lady Dr Gertrude Mutharika has given bursary to five underprivileged girls from Msalula Community Day Secondary School in Salima.
The bursary which is worth K 60,000 per year for each beneficiary was handed over by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Samuel Tembenu at a rally he addressed at Senior Chief Kalonga Headquarters on Friday.
In an interview with Malawi News Agency(MANA), the Minister said that the First lady was very much concerned with underprivileged girls who are struggling to get education.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the First Lady for considering supporting the underprivileged girls at Msalula CDSS,” Tembenu said.
Headteacher for Msalula Community Day Secondary School, Steven Masakatira said that the girls come from a very poor background.
“On behalf of my fellow teachers, we are very happy and thankful to the First Lady for giving these girls what they most needed in life. These girls come from poor families that cannot manage to pay school fees for them,” he said.
One of the beneficiaries, Mercy Morgan told Mana that, “ she was very thankful to the First Lady for giving me another chance to make my dream come true, by achieving my goal of being a nurse,”
Other beneficiaries are Prisca Isaac, Sophie Chimbalanga, Jersey James and Emily Mackeson. They are all in form one.
